As a full-service commercial printer, Mattos Newspapers, Inc. is prepared to handle any job with our variety of printing equipment. Here is a brief overview of the equipment utilized in each of our departments to meet your specific needs: Prepress It all starts with the high-speed transfer of your files to our FTP site. We strive to ensure that your publication is delivered to us camera-ready, in a secure, hassle-free manner. To minimize the possibility of errors, all files must be sent ot us in press-ready PDF format. Your job is then proofed and sent to film on our imagesetter. Bindery To meet your specific needs, we provide in-house bindery, which includes a wide array of inserting, trimming, numbering, labeling and mailing services.
Delivery We deliver throughout the Central Valley, Bay Area and Sierra foothills. Web Printing Our Harris Web offset press enables us to print a variety of formats and color layouts. We offer two paper sizes: 27.5" and 25" web rolls. Sheetfed printing Our versitile sheetfed presses can be configured to meet your printing needs. We offer a variety of paper types, sizes, and color options. Please call for details.
We're Here to Help In our quest to provide you with the highest quality publication, we strive to make the process as easy as possible for you. We have included answers to frequently asked questions in the following sections in an effort to get you prepared to print with us. Preparing Your Publication For Web Printing PDF is the preferred format to receive your publication. If your PDF is distilled correctly, it enables us to produce your publication in a consistent, high-quality manner (Please refer to our guide below for proper distiller settings). However, if corrections are required, it is our policy that you resubmit your PDF with the necessary changes. Images: We accept Black and White (Grayscale) and Color (must be CMYK). Please note RGB photos will not print in "true" colors. We will not color-correct photos unless you have approved it. We are not responsible for the printing quality of outside adjusted photos. If you have any technical questions regarding your photos, please give your Mattos customer service representative a call. Resolution: We use 100-line screen for color images and 85-line for grayscale images. Image resolution should be one and a half of that, for example, 150-200 dpi for grayscale/CMYK files running at 100% and at least 600 dpi for line art, depending on the original's quality. Distiller settings: Please choose the "Press Qualty" preset in Acrobat Distiller. If you are using InDesign, you may also output your PDF directly from the program, but make sure to choose "Press Quality" in the job options. If your publication uses spot color: If you are creating a PDF that will be printed in black plus one color, USE BLACK AND CYAN as your colors. We will change the color to your requested preference on the press. How To Send Us Your Publication We prefer that your upload your publication to use using our FTP site. For login information and instructions, please contacct your Mattos customer service representative. If you are unable to upload directly to our FTP site, we will accept files via e-mail, or alternately, on a CD-ROM delivered to our Newman facility.
